Floating gear riding on spring water — Ward Aquafarms, Cape Cod
From one lease to
every corner of aquaculture.
The farm began with a single 2.6-acre lease in Megansett Harbor and has grown into a ten-acre farm in North Falmouth, with additional grow sites on the Eel River in East Falmouth and Lonnie's Pond in Orleans — commercially growing oysters, bay scallops, quahogs and sugar kelp across East Falmouth, North Falmouth, Orleans, Bourne and Wareham, Massachusetts.
Beyond the commercial crops, Ward Aquafarms cultivates steelhead trout, tautog and quahogs for research aimed at growing domestic seafood production and widening the range of species American aquaculture can raise — much of it in collaboration with universities, commercial fishermen, shellfish farmers, and agencies including NOAA and the USDA.
